音乐

This is a small vocal ensemble open to students by audition only. Concentration is on a cappella singing and learning to read music as a vocal ensemble. 音乐 varies from classical to pop and jazz. This group performs at all music department concerts and at many functions in the community.

This is a general music class with focus on understanding how music expresses ideas. The class covers basic fundamentals of western musical notation and surveys various styles including music of other cultures. A good portion of the class is devoted to following the historical progression of music, 从古代到现代. There is also time given to jazz, rock, and other popular idioms.

An AP Examination is offered in this course.
This course is designed to prepare students to take the AP exam. Concentrating on the study of western musical practices, students learn the fundamentals of harmony, 四声部写作, 听写, 还有视觉上的歌唱. A large portion of the class is devoted to a survey of musical form and analysis.

器乐合奏 – the largest ensemble consisting of all school instrumentalists including string, 键盘, wind and percussion players; performs at all concerts.

爵士乐团 - usually traditional jazz instruments (萨克斯风s, 小号s, 长号s & rhythm section) but could also include 长笛, 单簧管, string players and other instruments – performs at all concerts and other community functions including jazz competitions.

室内管弦乐队 –mostly strings but could include wind and 键盘 players – performs at all concerts.

长笛合唱团 – consists of 长笛 players (piccolo, alto 长笛, etc.) – performs at all concerts.

吉他合奏 –players at all levels from beginning to advanced – performs at all concerts.

打击乐合奏 –all levels of players, from beginning to advanced – performs at all concerts.

IN ADDITION – The program offers private lessons in the following instruments: voice, 钢琴, 长笛, 单簧管, 萨克斯风, 小号, 法国号, 长号, 小提琴, 中提琴, 大提琴, 低音提琴, 吉他, 所有的打击乐器. These lessons can take place during free periods and after school times.

合唱团 –the largest of the choral groups and performs at each concert.

室赞美诗 –performs at all concerts, 许多的礼拜, and at other functions in the community including school’s Knollwood Society functions.

无伴奏合唱团 – Student run –performs at all concerts as well as some community functions such as Preservation Worcester’s Holiday Stroll.
